The Goodwood Revival

Aug 16th, 2018

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Goodwood Revival. Held at the Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex, the three-day event celebrates the “golden age” of motorsport - when the circuit was in use from 1948 to 1966. All racing at Goodwood is reserved for authentic vehicles of the era, hence the concrete ban on all modern motor vehicles.

Goodwood has seen the likes of famous drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss OBE, Damon Hill, and Rowan Atkinson competing in its races. There also a pedal car race held for children called the Settrington cup. It is thrilling to watch vintage Grand Prix racing cars, GT, touring, saloon and Formula juniors compete on the iconic racetrack.

Racing is not the only element of Goodwood’s appeal. Since its beginning in 1998, Goodwood has become a haven for all things vintage, and dressing up in period costume has become an iconic part of the event.

With the period spanning over 20 years, there are various looks and points of reference to draw upon. Tweeds, brogues and trilby hats are very popular, as are the overalls worn by mechanics and drivers of the era. Military uniforms are worn but you will also see neo-Edwardians, spivs, mods and greasers. Ladies are also often seen in military uniforms or in glamorous styles of the “new look” and sometimes in early 60s Mary Quant influenced op-art dresses.

Each year, a fashion show is hosted, with a competition for the best-dressed attendee. If you want to get a head start in the competition, you can book an appointment for the on-site hair salon and barbers. Both of which are located on the “revival High Street” where brands recreate the environment and products of the era.

There are more fun things to do “over the road” where, this year, there will be live music, dancing, a vintage cinema and even a Butlins-themed roller disco.

After sadly missing the show in 2017, Caracalla will be back this year with its largest ever stand!

We have teamed up with our friends at Paul Stephens to create a limited-edition Le Mans Classic x Porsche 911 Clubsport which will be exhibited this year. Already a cult classic, it has received some amazing press since it was unveiled in June. We like to think that this was partly due to the excellent touring luggage we designed to complement the car.

Caracalla will be showcasing recent collaborations with the RAC, Motoratus and Niki Lauda, along with the new range of accessories featuring artwork of Historic Monaco which will be launched at this year’s event and available for purchase along with the classic Caracalla collections of luggage, helmet bags and totes that you all know and love. There will also be some rare archive pieces on sale, available for the first time. We hope to see you there!

Goodwood Revival is 7th-9th September 2018. You can find Caracalla on stands 348/349.
