The Caracalla Tote

The word “tote” - meaning ‘to carry’ - can be traced back to the 17th century, but it was in the middle of the last century when it became permanently associated with a particular style of bag.
The classic tote, with its simple rectangular shape and attached handles, became a modern classic - an everyday, “go-to” handbag. Usually executed in a sturdy cloth (such as canvas), it was cheap to produce. The addition of leather handles gave the bag a luxurious twist.
The Caracalla tote bag is realised throughout in pure leather from the finest Tuscan tannery and boasts palladium-plated hardware, as well as a soft lining to protect your belongings. It has two internal pockets; a small patch pocket ideal for your mobile phone, and a zipped purse for your keys and change. It is the ideal luggage to take on vacation as it packs flat and has multiple uses. Use it on the beach to hold your Kindle and sun cream, or while out exploring. There is plenty of room for books, a camera, and small purchases you may make from local markets.
Back home, leather tote bags are ideal for modern business - to hold and protect your laptop, tablet, and papers. With the culture of casual business dress, and where a traditional briefcase is too stuffy but a nylon back backpack lacks gravitas, a smart leather tote strikes the right balance.
It is this versatility that has made the tote a modern classic, as Aleks Cvetkovic of The Jackal Magazine states “it will look good with everything from suit to shorts, buy for the beach and you’ll keep it for the city”
